How to clean dentures

YOUR DAILY ROUTINE

Cleaning dentures

After eating or before bed, it’s time to get down to business—denture cleaning business, that is!
Learn how to properly clean your denture for a smile that’ll last.

STEP 1

Prep your denture

So, you finished enjoying a good meal, or maybe it’s time to hit the hay—what next? Start by taking out your denture and drying it off with a paper towel. This will get off any immediate residue or saliva.

STEP 2

360° brushing

Next, run it under lukewarm water to prep for cleaning. Then, using a denture brush, gently scrub your denture with the wide end of your brush, including the denture teeth. Then with the shorter end, clean the crevice along your denture that sits against your gums when in your mouth.

STEP 3

Add denture solution

Once sudsy, it’s time to scrub-a-dub-dub! Using a denture brush, gently scrub your denture with the wide end of your brush, including the denture teeth. Then with the shorter end, clean the crevice along your denture that sits against your gums when in your mouth.

STEP 4

Protect your denture

After your denture is clean, give it a rinse. Then prep a storage container with room temperature denture-cleaning solution and soak it according to the instructions included with your solution.

Tips for the perfect denture clean

Keeping your dentures clean involves more than the right technique. Discover what else you need to know for the perfect clean—every time.

While premium dentures are extra durable and resistant to staining, no matter the type of traditional denture you get, incorporating a great cleaning routine will help you get the most out of your denture.

  • Maintains your oral health: Proper denture care helps prevent oral health issues, like infections, sores, inflamed gums, ulcers and more.

  • Keeps your smile bright: Daily denture care and cleaning prevents staining so it stays the bright, shining smile you customized.

  • Helps your denture last: Proper cleaning, handling and storing helps retain the shape and fit of your denture so it’s comfortable long term.

With so many options out there, it can be hard to choose the right cleaner for you. While you should always consult with your local Denture Expert based on your unique needs, a few options for any denture wearer:

  • Dr B Dental Solutions Liquid Crystal Soak Cleanser

  • Efferdent Anti-Bacterial Dental Appliance Cleanser

  • Renew Professional Strength Denture Cleaner

Remember, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions provided on the cleanser packaging. If you have any further questions, your local Aspen Dental care team is only a call away.

Yes. The rest of your mouth needs love too! After you’ve brushed your denture, use a soft toothbrush to clean your natural gums, and teeth if you have them, with toothpaste for good oral health.

Any time you’re not using your denture, your Denture Experts recommend storing it in water or denture-storing solution to keep it in tip-top shape. This will help prevent your denture from becoming misshapen, cracked, dry or brittle so you stay smiling for years to come.
